Willcom Launches PHS Handsets with 2.5G Cellular Functionality

According to a recent announcement by Japanese Willcom, the company will start selling four new PHS handsets in November in Japan. The new models were developed by Kyocera, Sanyo, and Japan Radio, and their features and performance are said to be on the same level as mobile phones, while prices will start at 10,000 Yen. Features include Internet browser software and fingerprint authentication. The company recently introduced flat-rate services, with a monthly rate of 6,700 Yen for unlimited phone calls and Internet connectivity. The company has a goal of reaching four million subscribers by the end of the fiscal year 2005, up from the current number of 3.4 million.
